Person Centred Therapy

PCT is a widely used model in counselling and psychotherapy. It provides the core conditions upon which the ethical framework for good practice is built and professional therapists abide by and adhere to.

In PCT, the therapist creates a comfortable, non judgemental environment by demonstrating the core conditions of congruence (genuineness), empathy, and respect towards the client.

It is a non directive therapy that encourages the client to seek and find their own solutions to their difficulties. The therapist uses active listening skills to hear the clients ‘story’ and reflect it back to the client. This gives the client the opportunity to hear their story in another person’s words and form an appropriate understanding of their world and themselves within it.
